Les Citoyens du Monde appellent à mettre fin à la guerre entre les États-Unis et la République islamique d’Iran par des négociations menées de bonne foi. Une nouvelle série d’attaques de missiles et de drones explosifs, tant de la part des États-Unis que de l’Iran, témoigne de la reprise du conflit armé. Les mesures économiques que le gouvernement des États-Unis a commencé à mettre en place – un «Jour J économique» – vont aggraver les souffrances économiques du peuple iranien, mais elles ont peu de chances d’entraîner un changement de politique de la part du gouvernement iranien, et encore moins un «changement de régime». Le régime iranien a tendance à se serrer les coudes lorsqu’il est confronté à un ennemi extérieur. Cependant, certains signes laissent entrevoir un débat politique entre les différentes factions au sein du gouvernement iranien et de la société dans son ensemble.

Certaines propositions pourraient améliorer la situation socio-économique et conduire à une paix stable. L’une d’elles consiste à créer un consortium regroupant les huit États riverains du Golfe Persique afin de contrôler le trafic maritime. De telles propositions créatives doivent être examinées dans le cadre de négociations menées de bonne foi. Elles pourraient avoir un impact régional positif.

La fin de la guerre entre les États-Unis et la République islamique d’Iran reste difficile à envisager. Le temps pour agir de manière constructive est compté et il faut agir dès maintenant.

Citizens of the World urge an end to the USA- Islamic Republic of Iran War through negotiations in good faith. A new round of missile attacks and explosive drones by both the U.S. and Iran is an indication of the renewed armed conflict. The economic measures started to be put in place by the United States (U.S.) government – an “Economic D-Day” – will increase the economic suffering of the Iranian people but is unlikely to produce a change of policy of the Iranian government, much less “regime change”. The Iranian regime tends to unite when it faces an outside enemy. However, there are signs of policy debate among factions in the Iranian government and within the wider society.

There are proposals that could improve the socioeconomic situation and lead to a stable peace. One proposal is for the creation of a consortium of the eight states bordering the Persian Gulf to control shipping. Such creative proposals need to be considered within negotiations in good faith. The proposals could have a positive regional impact.

An end to the USA-Islamic Republic of Iran War remains elusive. The time for positive action is short and must be undertaken now.
